fasting

this weekend i went on a fast for 30 hours. i had to chuckle at the thought of american culture  and society. we’re so stuck on food. it seems as though every social interaction that may occur will have an emphasis on food these days.

all over the world there are people like you and me that go days without a bite of food. not only is food scarce, but so is money. several of these countries have been struck with poverty and disease from cuts, bugs, and dirty water.

as i fasted i thought about the hunger i was experiencing. around here we have food at our fingertips anytime we want it. we have beds, we have hospitals. we have everything they don’t. we would be considered rich to many people around the world.

fasting isn’t just about coming to the realization of the poor and starving in our world but its about a spiritual cleanse as well. i know of people who have done a 40 day fast. i find this very inriguing. i think someday i would like to try it. i think i would learn a whole lot just by seeking and take time to really talk to God instead of having my mind on the one very desire lots of people in our country think about. food.
